When there are tight curves or corners in a design When there are tight curves or corners in a design, traditional stained glass cutting techniques would require a split in the glass. Using a bandsaw or a ringsaw allows for inside corners to be cut from a sheet of glass because the diamond coated blade sands the piece of glass rather than scoring to break it out. This does create a weakness in the glass, so it’s not normally used in stained glass work. Any heat could create a crack where the corner is. But when fusing the glass, the corner is secured to another piece of glass which strengthens the corner and eliminates any weakness. Often, when I create a collection, I consider what Often, when I create a collection, I consider what designs might be popular, but I'll also design something a little off-the-wall and just have some fun. Some of these designs get a little goofy with small or hidden details, but I design them more for the joy of simply creating a fun piece.⁠ ⁠ This Robin is the fun piece of the Birds of a Feather Collection. I wanted to try a stained glass window panel that had a raw edge, instead of a metal border around all of the edges. The organic feel to the top edge gives an openness to this design. The kiln-fired glass rounds the sharp edges, making it safe for curious fingers. The green border glass needed to be buffed on the grinder, as that piece didn't see the kiln.⁠ ⁠ It was a fun piece to create, finding the perfect part of the reddish glass with speckles for the Robin's belly, and the textured grass background and funny little worm. ⁠ ⁠ Do you like the somewhat abstract feel of this one?
