How’s It Made?

Handcrafted from art glass, we create the Winter Solstice Standup using multiple steps. First, we create a digital word cloud using wintry words and phrases. We arrange the design to allow for a two-colour print and expose into the silk screen. 

Next, we cut and polish the glass to the appropriate size. Then, using glass enamels, we print the first layer in blue enamel. We add sparkling blue mica powder directly onto the enamel, then allow the enamels to dry, securing the mica. We brush off excess mica, then print the second layer of enamel using white for contrast.

We kiln fire the glass to a low temperature to sinter the enamels into the surface of the glass. This makes the design permanent, so you won’t ever have to worry about the colour fading or washing off. During the firing, the glass is annealed. Because of this, the strength and durability of the glass is increased, so you know your Winter Solstice Standup will last for as long as you own the glass art.
