The Raven Window Panel is an eye-catching conversation starter, with the intelligent treasure seeker and his shiny coin. The textured surface catches the light, and the silver medallion glints delightfully, with the quote reading “Not all who wander are lost.”

This piece of glass art is created using fused glass elements, hand painted enamels, and a sweet quote to provoke warm thoughts. Hand shaped pieces create a lifelike bird for your home.

How it’s Made:

We create the Raven Window Panel using multiple steps. First, we cut the glass to size for the background. Next, each of the pieces for the bird are cut and shaped to fit. We use various types of grinders and saws to achieve the perfect shape.

Once the glass pieces are cleaned, we paint the wooden post design and set aside to allow to dry. The colour in the Raven Window Panel is created using powdered glass to create sky, and glass frits for the forest at the horizon. The pieces are arranged in layers to mimic the 3-dimensional effect for the bird. The parts of the raven which overhang the background are carefully supported to minimize sagging during the firing.

We fire the pieces just enough to allow a textured contour to the surface of the glass. This allows for a delightfully touchable piece of art. During the kiln firing, the glass is annealed which relieves internal stresses within the glass.  This creates a stronger and more durable piece of glass.

Once the glass cools, we drill the glass for the chain and the beak to hold the charm. Then we add the final detailing of the legs and beak and return the design to the kiln for a low firing.

Each panel in the Birds of a Feather Collection hang from approximately 3 feet of sturdy chain. We recommend hanging your stained glass window using hooks in or above the window frame. Suction cups are not recommended.
