“It is a bird’s imagination, not its wings, that determines how high it can fly.”
― Matshona Dhliwayo
- Two design styles to choose from

- Kiln Fired for strength and durability
- Dimensions are 5″x6″

A substantial bird, calmly watching for its next meal, the Pelican Standup shares two design styles, both commonly observed. The Sunrise Pelican begins his day, watching quietly from atop the wooden post at the pier. The sun stretches lazily across the sky, warming the sand as the waves kiss the shore. In the Lighthouse Flight, the pelican pair glide effortlessly into the cove, while the tall and stoic lighthouse looks on.
Measuring approximately 5×6″, this glass decor is a perfect size to bring a vibrant pop of colour to your space. Whether you add to your office, or brighten up your kitchen, this piece of art is a delightful addition to any space.
Display your touchable and textured fused glass art in your choice of wooden display, clear acrylic easel, or hand selected driftwood. Any of the display options allow light to travel through the glass, for a vibrant glowing display!
How’s It Made?
Handcrafted from art glass, we create the Pelican Standup using multiple steps. First, we cut and polish the clear glass to the appropriate size. Then, we create the pelican and lighthouse design elements using powdered glass. Next, we add glass frits for the wave splashes and the rocky shore. Using a special mix of frits, we utilize the reactive properties to result in a “river rock” effect to the frits.
Once these elements are arranged, we kiln fire the pieces to melt the design elements into the glass. After the initial contour firing, we add the enamel detailing to the glass. This includes the pelican beaks, the detailing of the wings, and the details on the lighthouse. Then, the pieces return to the kiln for a low-fire sintering to fuse the enamels into the surface of the glass.
The colour is the glass itself as well as the enamels sintered into the surface. Because of this, you won’t ever have to worry about the colour fading or washing off. During the firings, the glass is annealed. This means, the strength and durability of the glass is increased, so you know it will last for as long as you own the artwork.
