Lily of the Valley always reminds me of my grandmother – when we would go to visit, we would always pluck a small bouquet, carefully wrap in a damp paper towel and I would hold it all the way to her house. She loved the smell, and I always return to those memories when I see and smell the flowers now!

How’s It Made?

Handcrafted from art glass, we create the Lily of the Valley Standup using multiple steps. First, we roll a slab of clay to the appropriate size. Next, we pressed live flowers and leaves into the clay, creating the realistic and natural textures. We dry the clay slabs, ensuring they remain perfectly flat. Once dry, we bisque fire the clay to be used as a casting mold for the glass.

We cut and polish the glass to the appropriate size. Next, we use coloured glass powders and frits to accent the details in the textured clay mold. Once the colours have been carefully arranged, we place the sheet glass overtop and place the casting mold into the kiln.

We kiln fire the glass to allow the frits and the sheet glass to fuse together. The colour is the glass itself, you won’t ever have to worry about the colour fading or washing off. During the firing, we anneal the glass. Because of this, we increase the strength and durability of the glass, so you know it will last for as long as you own the Lily of the Valley Standup glass art.
