How’s It Made?
Handcrafted from art glass, we create the Life’s a Beach Lantern using multiple steps. First, we cut and polish the clear glass to the appropriate size. Then we add previously kiln-cast adornments for a 3D effect. Next, powders and frits are added to the panels for detail. This creates the fun texture to the design. Because the colour is the glass itself, you won’t ever have to worry about the colour fading or washing off. Following this, we kiln-fire the glass panels to a temperature to ensure the texture will reflect light off the curved surfaces.
During the firing, the glass is annealed. Because of this, the strength and durability of the glass is increased, so you know it will easily withstand regular use. Finally, once the glass has cooled, we hand paint the lettering onto one of the panels. This panel is then fired a second time to sinter the enamels into the surface of the glass.
