The sun sparkles through the crisp air, and the icicles hang delicately, waiting patiently. The snow melts and gently tumbles down, freezing and forming a frozen fluid form. Bring the beauty of nature’s ice sculptures indoors with the Icicle Lantern, without the risk of the icicles melting.

Measuring approximately 6″ x 6″ by 11″ in height, the Icicle Lantern is a perfect size to enjoy for indoor home decor. The neutral colours make it perfect to pair with any decor for a table centrepiece. With each side a unique detailed design, the sides can be viewed from any angle.

Alternatively, you might display the lantern on your floor or end table as an accent piece, or as outdoor decor on the patio or step to welcome winter guests.

How it’s made:

We create the Icicle Lantern in multiple steps. First, we roll a slab of clay to the appropriate size. Next, we carefully press varying lengths of icicle shapes into the clay using various wooden tools. Once the impressions have been made, we dry the clay, ensuring the slab remains perfectly flat. When the clay is completely dry, we bisque fire the clay to be used as a mold for glass.

When the mold is ready, we apply glass frits to the texture. We top the frits with a sheet of glass, cut to the appropriate size, and polished clean.

The glass and the mold are then carefully placed into the kiln, and the glass is cast into the texture of the mold. When the glass cools, it retains the texture and holds the design.

While the glass fires, we anneal it to strengthen the glass for durability. You can be sure to enjoy your lantern decor for many years to come.
