Details:

A beautiful wintry scene, the Gnomescape Curved Winterscene is a perfect addition to your ceramic Christmas village or atop your piano this season.

Measuring approximately 5×10″, this fused glass art is an ideal size to bring a little winter fun into your home. Ideal for small spaces, your office could use a little bit of whimsy. Alternatively, you can delight a friend by sending a Gnomescape Curved Winterscene directly to someone you care about. Just include a personalized note in your order notes.

Your very touchable fused glass art is a standalone piece, meaning it doesn’t require an additional display stand. The curved glass is designed to stand easily on edge. An optional 4″ LED candle is available to light the winterscene, creating a warm glow for your home.

This design is also available in a variety of other formats, including the Gnomescape Stand Up and Gnomescape Lantern, as well as the Gnomescape Plate and Gnomescape Centrepiece Bowl.

How’s It Made?

Handcrafted from art glass, we create the Gnomescape Curved Winterscene using multiple steps. First, we cut and polish the glass to the appropriate sizes. The background glass is first fired to a high temperature to smooth the surface. Once the glass cools, we cut glass for the gnome homes, and use glass frits for trees. We use powder for the gnome hats, glass stringers for the beards, and place the gnome noses to complete the persona. Finally, we add white glass frits as gently falling snow.

We kiln fire the glass to melt the powders and design elements into the background glass. Once the design is fired flat with all of the elements added, it goes into the kiln once more for a slump firing. This means the temperature is only high enough to soften the glass, enough for it to slump over a mold. When the glass cools, it retains the curved shape of the mold, while keeping all of the textured detail on the surface.

The colour in this artwork is the glass itself. This means you won’t ever have to worry about the colour fading or washing off. During the firings, we anneal the glass. Because of this, the strength and durability of the glass is increased, so you know it will last for many years.
