Coral Hanging Bowl
“Plants are like people: they’re all different and a little bit strange.”
– John Kehoe
- Organic Sea Coral Design
- Multiple Colour Options
- Kiln Fired for strength and durability
- Dimensions approximately 5″ diameter
- Ideal for air plants and trailing succulents
Whether adding air plants, or trailing succulent plants, the Coral Hanging Bowl will bring warmth to your space. Ideal to hang in a window, the fused glass art is a great conversational piece in any room.
Measuring approximately 5″ in diameter by 2″ deep, the hanging basket is intended to be lined with coconut coir, but may be displayed without. For air plants, you can simple slice a hole through the coir to slide the plant inside. Similarly, you can use the same method for trailing succulents, or simply let them trail over the edge of the basket.
This design is also available in a larger tabletop format; see the Coral Bowl here.
How’s It Made?
Handcrafted from art glass, we create the Coral Hanging Bowl using multiple steps. First, we cut and polish strips of various coloured glass. We arrange the strips directly on the kiln shelf, in an organic design. Then, we fire the glass to a high temperature to ensure a full fuse of the strips. This rounds the edges and helps to produce the delicate look of the coral.
Once the glass cools, we carefully clean the glass. Then, we return the glass to the kiln by placing it on a mold and heating at a low temperature. This allows the glass to soften and sag into the mold, creating the bowl shape. The curved shape is retained when the glass cools.
The colour in the Coral Hanging Bowl is the glass itself. This means you won’t ever have to worry about the colour fading or washing off. During the firing, we anneal the glass. Because of this, the strength and durability of the glass is increased, so you know it will last for many years.
