Creating casting molds for my glass out of clay wa Creating casting molds for my glass out of clay was an interesting addition to this collection. The Home Sweet Home Lantern has a variety of techniques for the different panels. The back panel of this lantern has a textured cast glass door, which I created using these mini door samples I’ve hoarded for about 130 years from my past job. By pressing clay onto the panels, I got the texture I was looking for, and once it dried, it held the texture I wanted to create using glass. Once the clay was fired, I sprayed it with a mold release and covered it with the glass for the door. When it cast, it held the imprint from the mini door, creating the look I wanted to achieve for this lantern. Then, I fired the glass face up with a wreath on the door, just high enough to fuse the two together. Which side is your favourite? The Winter Buck Standup and the Winter Buck Lanter The Winter Buck Standup and the Winter Buck Lantern both start out the day way: the Buck is screen printed using enamels and dried, then I sift the powder for the snow, and lay the sheet glass birch trees overtop. Next, I use tweezers to carefully place all of the snow frits individually. The black stripes of the birch trees are the final detail. After the panels are filled to melt the glass together, they are either installed into a lantern, or I cut a wood block to fit the thickness of the glass. I even got some new birch logs for displays, and they work perfectly with this design 😉 But I don’t have many of them yet, so I won’t have an option for purchase listed on my site.
